Mercedes, TX (March 24, 2019) On the evening of March 23rd, a fatal car crash happened on FM 491, just north of Mile 10 Road. According to the reports, a red Dodge Ram was headed northbound on the highway when a Nissan Sentra traveling in the opposite direction veered into the driver’s lane, ultimately crashing into the Dodge. The accident took place at approximately 8:41 p.m.

When the paramedics arrived, they found the driver of the Dodge suffering from unspecified injuries and transported them to McAllen Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, the driver of the Nissan suffered fatal injuries at the scene. She has been identified as 28-year-old Irma Cerda.

The police are currently investigating the accident to determine why Cerda’s vehicle veered into the opposite lane.

We send our condolences to Irma Cerda’s family as we know how hard it is to lose a family member in a vehicle accident. We also hope the other driver fully recovers from their injuries.  Our thoughts are with everyone invoved.
