UPDATE: Dallas County, TX – Alejandro Chavez Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Accident on Interstate 45

Dallas County, TX (April 6, 2019) On the early morning of April 5th, a fiery wrong-way accident happened on Interstate 45 at Pleasant Run Road. According to the reports, a 23-year-old named Jay’la Sherley was driving in the wrong direction on the highway when she crashed into a Lexus. The impact of the collision ignited a dangerous fire. The accident happened just before 4:30 a.m.

When emergency crews responded, they found the passenger in the Lexus, 19-year-old Alejandro Chavez, suffering from critical injuries and transported him to Baylor University Medical Center. Unfortunately, he did not survive. Sherley was also transported to Baylor University Medical Center due to her injuries.

The police are still investigating to check whether drugs and/or alcohol played a role in this tragic accident. Crews shut down the lanes and worked all morning to clear the accident. Lanes reportedly reopened at around 11:00 a.m.

Our thoughts are with Alejandro Chavez’s family as they try to get through this sad time.

Wrong-Way Accidents in Texas

UPDATE: Dallas County, TX – Alejandro Chavez Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Accident on Interstate 45Unfortunately, recent studies show that Texas has more wrong-way accidents than any other state in the country. The leading cause of these accidents is almost always drunk driving, which is more likely to occur at night when less drivers are on the road. When drivers are impaired, they’re more prone to drive in the wrong lane since their vision gets blurred.
