Houston, TX – 1 Injured in Hit-and-Run Bike Accident on Alabama St & Hutchins St
Houston, TX (April 7, 2019) On the early morning of April 7th, a hit-and-run bicycle accident happened near Alabama Street and Hutchins Street in Third Ward. According to the reports, a group of bicyclists were headed northbound when a white pickup truck drove through them without stopping.
When emergency crews responded to the crash site, they found one bicyclist injured while the remaining cyclists pedaled off leaving the injured cyclist alone. It is unclear if they were all traveling together.
The police are currently investigating the crash and replaying surveillance footage to determine what caused the driver to drive through the group of cyclists and which direction the driver headed in.
Our thoughts are with the injured cyclist and his family at this time. We hope for a full and speedy recovery.
Bicycle Accidents in Houston
Unfortunately, Houston is one of the most dangerous cities for cyclists since the number of bicycle accidents continues to increase each year. Between 2015 and 2016, bicycle accidents increased by 34 percent in the city. The leading cause of most of these accidents is usually drivers being inattentive. Although bicycles are not considered vehicles, cyclists still have to obey the same traffic laws as motor vehicles, which means drivers should show them respect on the road.
