Livestock Collisions In Texas

Armstrong County, TX – One Dead And One Hurt In Collision On SH-207The state of Texas is known as an “open range” state. What this means is that livestock owners, in most cases, have no legal duty to prevent their animals from getting onto roadways. There are two exceptions to this rule.

For one, cow owners can be held liable for accidents caused by their animals in areas that have Stock Laws enacted. These laws are passed by local voters to ensure owners of livestock prevent their animals from entering onto roadways.

The second case where owners can be held liable is when incidents occur on state or federal highways, like the one at case here. Surviving family members, as well as the victim injured in this collision, are able to contact a car accident attorney in Texas to protect their legal rights to justice and compensation.
