Hartley County, TX – Victims Of US 385 Collision Identified

Harley County, TX (April 25, 2019) – On Tuesday, April 23, Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a collision on US Highway 385.

According to reports, numerous vehicles collided on the highway. A semi-truck driven by 27-year-old Samual Garret was traveling north along US 385, directly following another semi-truck driven by 56-year-old Christopher Goodson. A third semi-truck, occupied by 26-year-old Cristian Soto-Ruiz and 26-year-old Jaciel Longoria-Acosta, was traveling south. A forth semi-truck was parked in the shoulder of the north side lanes.

An investigation of the incident determined that Goodson slammed on his brakes after noticing the fourth semi in the shoulder along the roadway. After applying the brakes, Garret swerved to the left, crossing over the center stripe, crashing head-on into the semi-truck driven by Soto-Ruiz, causing Garrett’s semi-truck to split in half. Soto-Ruiz’s semi-truck continued north along the roadway before running into Goodson’s semi-truck.

Longoria Acosta was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. Soto-Ruiz was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in critical condition. He has since been transferred to Oklahoma City.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Longoria Acosta.  Our thoughts are with them and everyone who was affected by this crash as we pray for healing.
