San Diego, TX – One Killed In Crash On State Highway 59
San Diego, TX (May 3, 2019) – On May 3, Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a collision on State Highway 59.
The incident occurred just after 6 a.m. on Friday when a pickup truck traveling west attempted to pass a Border Patrol vehicle along the roadway. As the pickup truck driver entered into the eastbound lane, the vehicle struck a Toyota SUV head-on.
The impact of the collision caused the pickup truck to roll across the westbound lanes before landed upright in a ditch along the interstate. The pickup truck then caught on fire. The shift in traffic caused the Border Patrol vehicle to strike the SUV as well.
The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident by DPS officers, who are trying to identify the driver.
The driver and passenger in the SUV were both injured and transported to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice.
