Lufkin, TX – Seth Thompson Injured in Hit & Run Pedestrian Accident on Timberland Dr
Lufkin, TX (May 4, 2019) On the afternoon of May 4th, a hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened on Timberland Drive. A 28-year-old Lufkin police officer, Seth Thompson, was working on a minor accident when a vehicle struck him at approximately 12:53 p.m.
When the initial accident happened at around 12:30 p.m., the vehicles pulled over into the Cox Muffler parking lot to exchange information and file a police report. Thompson parked his vehicle and put his hazard lights on as he investigated the crash. A vehicle struck Thompson and immediately drove off.
When the paramedics arrived, they found Thompson injured and an emergency helicopter flew him to UT Tyler Medical for treatment. Fortunately, he is in stable condition.
Authorities are searching for the driver responsible as they continue to investigate.
Our thoughts are with Seth Thompson and his family at this time. We hope for a full and speedy recovery.
Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents
About 10 percent of fatal police officer accidents involve police officers being struck by vehicles. Police officers often put themselves at risk of being seriously harmed by being out on the field. Although police officers are rarely hit by vehicles, when they are, it’s usually due to drivers not paying attention while they’re driving, or drivers being under the influence. When drivers leave the scene after striking an officer, it’s usually because of fear of being arrested and charged.
