Gray Co., TX – Fungisai Banda & Jacob Frogge Killed In I-40 Crash
Gray Co., TX (May 7, 2019) – On Monday, May 6, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a collision on Interstate 40.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m., approximately two miles west of McLean. According to reports, 28-year-old Justin Khashan was traveling east on Interstate 40 in a 2013 Freightliner truck tractor while hauling a semi-trailer. He noticed a single headlight traveling west in the eastbound lane directly toward him.
In an effort to avoid hitting a 2008 Toyota Camry, which was driven by 18-year-old Collin Lovelace, Khashan pulled his vehicle into the shoulder of the interstate. A 2005 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by 33-year-old Fungisai Banda, attempted to pass Khashan in the eastbound direction when it struck the Camry head-on in the left lane.
The impact of the collision caused the Mountaineer to bounce off the Camry and strike the driver side of the Freightliner truck.
Both Fungisai Banda and the passenger of the Camry, who was identified as Jacob Frogge, were pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident. Lovelace was critically injured and transported to an Amarillo Hospital for treatment. A 2-year-old passenger inside the Mountaineer was transported to Pampa Regional Medical Center for treatment to injuries.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of both Jacob Frogge and Fungisai Banda. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
