Smith County, TX – One Killed In Construction Accident On I-20 East

Smith County, TX (May 15, 2019) – On May 15, police and emergency crews responded to the scene of a construction accident at 13628 Interstate 20 East.

According to reports, 48-year-old Jose Pena Garcia was working with a concrete pump truck when it collapsed on top of him around 8:45 a.m. Garcia was reportedly pouring concrete at the hose end of the boom when a shift in weight caused the machine to become unbalanced. The boom struck Garcia in the head and knocked him to the ground.

Garcia was pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident by responding crews.
