Raymondville, TX – 1 Killed & 1 Injured in Fatal Collision on US-77
Raymondville, TX (May 18, 2019) On the evening of May 16th, a fatal multi-vehicle collision happened on US-77, just south of FM 3168. A 26-year-old woman was operating a maroon 2007 Chevrolet Impala on Business 77 when she tried to swerve to the shoulder of the road and crashed into a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The impact of the collision caused the Malibu to collide with a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado in the opposite lane. The accident happened at approximately 9:45 p.m.
When the ambulance arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the Malibu, 19-year-old Jonathan Young, injured and rushed him to Valley Baptist Medical Center for treatment. Sadly, he died at the hospital despite immediate medical care. His 4-year-old son was also in the car with him during the collision and sustained injuries as well. An emergency helicopter airlifted him to the closest hospital in San Antonio.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained critical injuries and was also transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center. The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Jonathan Young at this time. We pray that his young son will make a full recovery from the injuries sustained in this terrible crash.
DUI Accidents in Texas
Approximately 102 people lost their lives in vehicle accidents every day nationwide in 2016. One of the most common causes of vehicle accidents is driving under the influence, which often occurs after hours when people are leaving social gatherings or bars. When drivers get behind the wheel impaired, they are more prone to driving recklessly and causing accidents.
