UPDATE: Dallas, TX – Woman Killed and 4 Injured in Fatal Collision on Lake June Rd
Dallas, TX (May 26, 2019) On the evening of May 24th, a fatal collision happened in the 10700 block of Lake June Road.
An orange Dodge Challenger, a gray Dodge Charger, and a blue Ford Mustang were drag racing as a black Chevrolet Impala was turning left onto Rain Forest Drive. The Challenger crashed right into the Chevrolet at around 7:30 p.m.
The impact of the crash caused a 9-year-old girl who has been identified as Olivia Mendez to eject out of the Chevrolet and land onto the road. Sadly, Mendez succumbed to her injuries at the scene. A 3-year-old child in the backseat sustained critical injuries and was taken to Children’s Medical Center for immediate medical care.
The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet also sustained injuries and were taken to the closest hospital available. The driver of the Challenger was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The two other drivers fled the scene, but the police are currently searching for them as they continue to investigate the accident.
Our thoughts are with Olivia Mendez’ family during this tragic time. We also wish the four other injured victims a complete and quick recovery.
Vehicle Accidents in Texas
Unfortunately, over 30,000 car accidents occurred in Dallas in 2015, some of which were fatal. When drivers partake in drag racing, they put themselves and other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians in serious danger of potentially losing their lives. Drag racing is illegal in Texas, partly because of how fast drivers travel on regular streets. Because it’s hard for vehicles to suddenly brake once they’re at a certain speed limit, they run the risk of breaking traffic laws and causing major accidents.
