Smith County, TX – Carlos Hernandez Killed In Boating Crash On Lake Palestine

Smith County, TX (June 4, 2019) – On June 2, around 8 p.m., emergency crews responded to the scene of a boating accident on Lake Palestine on Lakeside Drive.

According to reports, 14-year-old Carlos Hernandez was swimming with other children in the water when a black boat with red flecks struck him in the water. Hernandez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities confirm that they arrested 31-year-old Jeffrey Joe Hampton, who was the driver of the boat the fled the scene after the incident. Hampton is being charged with failure to stop and render aid.
