Elgin, TX – Child Struck By Semi On US 290 Identified

Elgin, TX (June 13, 2019) – Just after 4 p.m. on June 11, a school bus from the Elgin ISD stopped along US 290 near Christensen Road to drop off a child.

As 6-year-old Jairo Labra Huitron exited the school bus, he was struck by a semi-truck passing through.

The driver of the 18-wheeler said he was not going to be able to stop in time for the bus, so he honked his horn to alert students that he was going through as he proceeded around the bus. In passing, he clipped the 6-year-old boy with his truck.

The boy was seriously injured in the collision and transported via air helicopter to an area hospital for treatment.

The incident remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with Jairo Labra Huitron and his family at this time.
