Newton County, TX – 1 Killed in Fatal Head-On Collision on SH 87

Newton County, TX (July 13, 2019) On the early morning of July 13th, a fatal head-on collision happened on State Highway 87, not far from the Bleakwood community. A 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling northbound on the highway when it veered across the center line and struck a 1996 Chevrolet sedan that was traveling southbound. The impact of the collision caused the Chevrolet to catch on fire. The accident happened at around 2:45 a.m.

When the paramedics arrived, they found the driver of the Chevrolet dead at the scene. The 24-year-old driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Christus St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Beaumont for immediate treatment.

The police are still investigating what caused the pickup truck to veer into the opposite lane.

Our thoughts are with the deceased driver’s family at this time. We also wish the injured pickup truck driver a complete recovery.
