Houston, TX – 5 Killed and 3 Injured in Three-Car Crash on US 59

Houston, TX (July 20, 2019) On the morning of July 20th, a three-car crash happened on US 59. An 18-wheeler, passenger van, and pickup truck collided on the highway for unknown reasons. It all started when the 2016 Ford van was merging onto the highway and somehow struck the 18-wheeler truck. After colliding with the truck, the van lost control and ended up in the opposite lanes, which resulted in a head-on collision with a 2016 Ford pickup truck. The accident happened at approximately 10:56 a.m.

When the police, paramedics, and fire department arrived to assist at the scene at about 11:15 a.m., they found five people in the van with fatal injuries. One of the occupants sustained serious injuries and was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital via Life Flight. The van had a total of ten occupants. Two occupants inside of the pickup truck sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for further help.

Crews shut down some of the southbound lanes of the highway as they worked to clear up the collision and investigate.

Our thoughts are with the families of the five deceased victims, and we wish the three injured victims an extremely fast recovery.

Car Accidents in Texas

Houston, TX - 5 Killed and 3 Injured in Three-Car Crash on US 59Often, collisions that occur on highways are caused by negligent driving, which is usually distracted driving. In the morning when people are on their way to work, they’re more prone to eat breakfast in the car, apply their makeup via their rearview mirror, and respond to text messages or emails. Therefore, their focus is not one hundred percent on the road, which leads to major collisions that cause severe and fatal injuries.
