Smith County, TX – Deputy Injured In Crash On Highway 31

Smith County, TX (July 23, 2019) – On July 20, during the evening hours, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 31.

According to reports, a Smith County deputy was traveling along Highway 31 when he attempted to stop a drunk driver on the road. The deputy was traveling east along the roadway and waited for the vehicle to pass him.

As the vehicle passed, the deputy turned on his lights and attempted to make a u-turn to follow the driver. As the deputy attempted to make the turn, he was T-boned by another vehicle.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
