UPDATE: Austin, TX – Cedric Benson Killed In Motorcycle Accident On Mount Bonnell Rd
Austin, TX (August 18, 2019) On the evening of August 17th, a fatal motorcycle accident happened on Mount Bonnell Road. A minivan struck a motorcycle that carried a man and a woman late Saturday night.
When the Austin Police Department and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the two occupants of the motorcycle lying in the roadway critically injured. Despite immediately tending to them, they were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has been identified as Cedric Benson, an NFL player on the Texas Longhorn football team. The woman’s identity has not been released yet. Two other people sustained injuries and were tended to by the paramedics.
The police are still investigating the accident, but they believe speed and poor visibility were contributing factors to the fatal collision.
Our thoughts are with the family of Cedric Benson and the deceased woman. We wish the two injured victims a quick recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in Texas
Studies show that speed is the third most common cause of all motorcycle accidents throughout the United States. During night hours, it’s harder for drivers to see motorcycles in their blind spots, especially if the driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Because motorcycles are significantly smaller than passenger vehicles, it’s easy for drivers to accidentally collide with them after hours.
