Dumas, TX – UPDATE: Robert Zubia Killed In Crash On N 8th St
Dumas, TX (August 20, 2019) – On August 16, at approximately 9:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident in the 100 block of North 8th Street.
According to reports from police, a 2016 Volvo 18-wheeler was traveling up from North 8th Street when the driver failed to yield the right of way to a second semi-truck while entering US Highway 287.
As a result, the two semi-trucks collided. The impact of the collision sent the first semi-truck off the roadway and into a crowd of pedestrians, who were standing near the door of the Loves Truck Stop.
One person in the crowd, who was identified as 26-year-old Roberto Zubia, incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people, including one child, were all injured and transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Additionally, the Volvo collided with five other vehicles before coming to a stop.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
