Edwards County, TX – UPDATE: Victims ID’d in Hwy 377 Injury Crash

Edwards County, TX (September 8, 2019) – More details have been released after a Sheriff’s Deputy was hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Wednesday evening in the Edwards County area.

According to authorities, the injury crash occurred around 6:50 p.m. on the southbound lanes of Highway 377, near Rural Route 674. At that time, Deputy Adrian Ruiz, of Uvalde, was conducting a traffic stop when an oncoming red pickup truck hit Ruiz’s stopped patrol car. The impact of the accident then caused the patrol car to hit both Ruiz and the black truck he had pulled over.

Carlos Antonio Alanis, the driver of the red pickup truck, had fallen asleep at the wheel before the wreck occurred. First responders were on the scene to assist the victims and airlifted Ruiz to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was found to have a broken elbow and fractured femur. Alanis was also transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time.
