Wheeler County, TX – Robert Leighty Killed in Motorcycle Crash on I-40

Wheeler County, TX (September 16, 2019) – At approximately 11:40 p.m. on September 12, emergency crews responded to the scene of a major motor vehicle accident on I-40 that involved a motorcycle.

According to reports, 59-year-old Robert Leighty was traveling east on his motorcycle on I-40 when a semi-truck who was driving behind attempted to pass Leighty, clipped the motorcycle as he was trying to maneuver back into the lane.  The semi lost control and slammed into the median causing the motorcyclist to end up under the tractor-trailer.

Leighty was transported to an area hospital in Shamrock where he succumbed to his injuries and died.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
