Riesel, TX – 1 Officer Killed and 1 Injured in Pedestrian Accident on Hwy 6

Riesel, TX (October 12, 2019) A fatal pedestrian accident happened on Highway 6, not far from Waco. On the night of October 11th, Deputy Matt Jones and Riesel Chief of Police Danny Krumnow were helping a driver on the side of the highway when a Mazda hit them.

When emergency crews arrived at the crash site, they found both officers suffering from injuries. Unfortunately, Deputy Jones sustained fatal injuries despite help from the paramedics. A medical helicopter transported Chief Kumnow to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waco for treatment of serious injuries. Medical professionals claim he is in stable condition and expected to survive his injuries.

The driver of the Mazda also sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities are currently investigating the accident, but they believe the rain may have caused the Mazda to hydroplane and strike the two officers.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim Deputy Matt Jones at this time.  Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
