UPDATE: Garland, TX – Joyce Cawis Killed in Hit-And-Run Accident on Jupiter Rd
Garland, TX (November 16, 2019) On the 14th of November, a fatal hit-and-run accident happened near the intersection of Jupiter Road and Forest Lane. According to reports, a black Dodge Ram Big Horn pickup truck was speeding on Jupiter Road when it collided with a Toyota 4Runner that was headed westbound.
At around 11:45 p.m., emergency crews received the call and rushed to the scene. The woman inside of the Toyota was trapped inside of her vehicle and had to be extricated. The paramedics then transported her to a nearby hospital, but she did not survive. She has been identified as 46-year-old Joyce Cawis of Rowlett.
Unfortunately, the driver who was speeding abandoned the wrecked Dodge pickup truck, hopped into a black vehicle, and fled the scene.
Authorities are still searching for the driver responsible, but they believe he is a Hispanic man with a short fade haircut, who wore a black soccer-style jersey and black shorts at the time of the accident.
We send our condolences to the family of Joyce Cawis. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Texas
Over 700,000 hit-and-run accidents occur annually throughout the United States every year. When drivers flee the scene of an accident, they often have a recent criminal history or are scared of creating one. However, fleeing the scene of an accident can result to severe consequences, such as prison time and fines.
If a driver flees the scene without rendering aid to all injured parties involved, immediate family members can file wrongful death lawsuits if their loved ones do not survive the accident.
At The Benton Law Firm, we are passionate about the rights of our clients, especially if they played no role in causing a collision but still lost their lives. We have spent years helping families file and win their wrongful death lawsuits. We believe all responsible parties should be held financially liable for all damages and losses sustained.
