El Paso, TX – 2 Killed & 2 Injured in DUI Accident on Loop 375 W
El Paso, TX (December 8, 2019) Two people lost their lives in a DUI accident on Saturday night, one of which was a 6-year-old boy. According to reports, a 1999 Toyota 4Runner was headed eastbound in the westbound lanes of Loop 375 West (Border Highway) when it collided head-on with a 2017 Toyota Corrola. The accident took place at around 7:30 p.m.
When the paramedics arrived, they found the child deceased at the scene. The child’s mother, 25-year-old Emily Yvonna Garcia, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, she did not survive. The drunk driver, 73-year-old Juan Martinez, and his passenger, 29-year-old Alberto Cuellar, were also injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment as well.
Martinez will be charged once he is released from the hospital.
We send our condolences to the families of Emily Yvonna Garcia and her son. We also hope Juan Martinez and Alberto Cuellar fully recover from their injuries.
DUI and Head-On Collisions in El Paso
According to recent studies, this collision caused the 65th fatality in El Paso this year. Sadly, drunk driving and head-on collisions go hand in hand because most of the time drunk driving is the reason head-on collisions occur. When drivers are under the influence late at night, it’s easy for them to drive in the wrong direction due to their inability to see clearly. Drunk driving is considered an irresponsibly negligent act and all drivers should be expected to pay fines and serve prison time for their behavior.
