Woodville, TX – 1 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Collision On U.S. 69
Woodville, TX (December 14, 2019) On the afternoon of December 12th, a multi-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of U.S. 69 and Wheat Street at 1:00 p.m.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a patrol vehicle had its emergency lights on as it was responding to a call right before the collision occurred. All of the vehicles in the vicinity yielded for the patrol vehicle except for a 2018 Chevrolet. As the Chevrolet turned left, it collided with the patrol vehicle at the intersection. The impact of the crash caused the Chevrolet to also collide with a 2011 Dodge pickup truck.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a deputy had been injured because of the crash and rushed him to a local area hospital for treatment.
The accident is still under investigation as Texas DPS determines why the Chevrolet failed to yield for the patrol vehicle.
We wish the injured deputy a complete recovery. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.
Vehicle Collisions in Texas
Thousands of accidents involving patrol vehicles occur annually throughout the United States. Most of these accidents occur while police officers are out on the field responding to emergency calls. When patrol vehicles turn on their emergency lights, all drivers are expected to yield, especially since patrol vehicles often speed and break traffic laws in order to get to their destinations as quickly as possible.
When drivers are distracted or under the influence, they often don’t realize which direction the emergency sirens are coming from and accidentally collide with patrol vehicles. When this occurs, police officers have the right to file personal injury lawsuits against all liable parties.
At The Benton Law Firm, we help injured victims file personal injury lawsuits every day because we are passionate about their rights, especially if they weren’t at fault for the collision.
