Lubbock County, TX – Major Collision On Hwy 84 Leaves Several Injured
Lubbock County, TX (December 28, 2019) A major collision happened on Highway 84 in Lubbock County on December 27th.
A semi-truck was headed eastbound on the highway when it jackknifed, slid, and stopped at the center median. As a result, multiple other vehicles collided into the truck due to the presence of heavy fog.
Another semi-truck jackknifed as it tried to avoid a red SUV that had switched lanes. Unfortunately, the truck swerved off of the highway, rolled over on its side, and struck several vehicles before landing in a ditch.
When emergency personnel arrived to assist at the scene, they found an injured Texas state trooper, and another driver trapped inside of a pickup truck. The Lubbock Fire Department removed the trapped driver and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Texas state trooper was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
There was a total of five collisions, which involved four semi-tractor trailers and four vehicles.
The police are still investigating the collision, but they did confirm that there was heavy fog that prevented drivers from seeing about a quarter-mile in front of them.
Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this collision. We wish the two injured victims a full and complete recovery.
Vehicle Collisions in Texas
Unfortunately, hazardous weather conditions are responsible for causing thousands of collisions annually throughout the United States. During the winter season, it’s important for drivers to slow down due to icy roads, heavy fog, and intense rainstorms. Because roads can become slippery due to the mixture of oil and rain, it’s important for drivers to refrain from speeding, driving aggressive, and driving distracted. Otherwise, major accidents could result from negligent behavior and leave those involved seriously injured.
