Robert Lee, TX – Samantha Fernandez Injured In Burn Accident In Coke County

Robert Lee, TX (January 4, 2020) A woman suffered severe burns on New Year’s Eve at around 9:45 p.m., according to reports. A 26-year-old woman named Samantha Fernandez was enjoying the evening at her relatives’ house when the accident happened. She was trying to restart the outside fire when the gas can she was holding exploded and engulfed her in flames.

Because the gas can was full of oil and gasoline, she was unable to roll off the fire, nor was her family able to quickly put it out despite their efforts.

The fire department, paramedics, and other crews rushed to the scene to help. They put out the fire and airlifted her to University Medical Center for treatment. Fernandez sustained third-degree burns that covered 85 percent of her body. Her burns are expected to take months to heal. She is currently in intensive care at the UMC Burn Center inside the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.

Our thoughts are with Samantha Fernandez and her family at this time. We wish her a complete recovery.
