Nine Injured in Street Racing Crash on W.S. Young Drive and Elms Road in Killeen
Killeen, TX (March 25, 2020)- Nine people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on February 8, 2020 in Killeen, Texas. The crash occurred at about 9:40 p.m. at the W.S. Young Drive and Elms Road intersection. Police reported that a Dodge Charger and a Mercedes Benz were racing northbound on W.S. Young Drive while a Dodge Journey was in the left-hand turning lane of W.S. Young Drive. The Journey was struck by the Charger while attempting to turn at the intersection. The force of the impact caused the Journey to drift northeast and hit a signal light pole. The Charger spun clockwise and struck the Mercedes. One passenger in the Journey was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White in critical condition. The driver of the Journey and five children were transported to the hospital for treatment. The driver and passenger of the Charger were transported to Seton Medical Center Harker Height with minor injuries. The Mercedes driver and passenger were uninjured in the accident. The drivers of the Charger and the Mercedes were charged with Racing on Highway-Causing Serious Bodily Injury. The crash remains under investigation.
