The accident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on FM 1999 and Highway 9 near the Long Point Corner Store. Officials reported that the driver of a pickup truck did not yield the right of way to a motorcycle ridden by Philips and his passenger Hubbard, causing the motorcycle to hit the pickup truck. An oncoming vehicle traveling westbound then struck Hubbard and Philips. Hubbard was pronounced dead at the scene, and Philips was transported to Oschner LSU Health in Shreveport, where he later died from his injuries. There are no further details. The crash remains under investigation.

Motorcycle Accidents in Texas

New Braunfels, TX – 1 Killed In Motorcycle Accident On I-35In 2016, approximately 5,286 motorcyclists lost their lives on U.S. roads. Because motorcycles are less visible to drivers, and not as stable as larger vehicles, it’s common for drivers to accidentally strike and seriously harm motorcyclists. Because motorcyclists aren’t physically guarded by their vehicles like other drivers, it’s easier for them to sustain serious injuries in an accident. Depending on the severity of the collision, motorcyclists could even lose their lives.

Immediate family members of deceased motorcyclists may be able to file wrongful death lawsuits if their loved ones were not at fault for the accident.

At The Benton Law Firm, we spend every day defending the rights of our clients and helping families win their wrongful death lawsuits. Fatal accidents are tragic and traumatic. Families have enough emotional distress to deal with, and we don’t believe they should also be burdened by expensive funeral costs and more.
