20-Year-Old Deputy Noah Israel Calderon and 21-Year-Old Samantha Grace Handy Killed, One Injured in 18-Wheeler Crash on State Highway 188 and FM 796 in San Patricio County
San Patricio County, TX. (August 18, 2020)- Deputy Noah Israel Calderon and Samantha Grace Handy were killed, and a teenage passenger was injured in a two-vehicle crash on August 12, 2020 in San Patricio County, Texas. The crash occurred around 9:40 p.m. at the State Highway 188 and FM 796 intersection. Troopers reported that Calderon was driving a Toyota Tacoma eastbound on SH 188 while an 18-wheeler was traveling southbound on FM 796. The driver of the 18-wheeler then ran the stop sign and struck the Tacoma at the intersection. Calderon and his passenger Handy were pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger of the Tacoma was airlifted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
