KAUFMAN CO., TX – Three men and a teen boy died Wednesday when a drunk driver struck them along the interstate in northwest Kaufman County.
According to Fox 4 KDFW, the accident happened around 2 a.m. on I-20 near FM 741. This is southeast of Mesquite in the Forney area.
Police say the four victims were changing a flat tire on an SUV when a vehicle hit them. The driver of the vehicle, who has since been identified as 35-year-old Basilio Mares Ortiz, was intoxicated when the crash occurred.
Authorities identified the adult victims as Arturo Martinez Gonzalez, 47, Anthony Hernandez, 19, and Mario Guajardo De La Paz, 19. The teen victim was 15-year-old.
Police arrested Mares Ortiz on four counts of intoxication manslaughter.
The investigation is ongoing.
