Refugia Barrera, 51, fatally injured in San Diego DUI crash
SAN DIEGO, TX – A 51-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident in west-central Jim Wells County, reports KXII 3 News.
The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. near the intersection of TX-44 and TX-359 in central San Diego. This is about an hour west of Corpus Christi.
Police say that a 52-year-old Alice man was likely drunk when he lost control of his southbound Silverado pickup, left the roadway, and struck a pole.
The passenger in the truck, identified as Refugia Barrera, died after transport to an area hospital.
Barrera was married to the the driver, who has since been identified as Gilberto Rosales Jr.
Authorities arrested Rosales Jr. on a count of intoxication manslaughter.
A full investigation is underway.
