2-vehicle head-on crash involving semi in Nacogdoches Co. kills 1

NACOGDOCHES, TX – One person died, and two others went to the hospital Wednesday after a wrong-way crash involving an 18-wheeler and an SUV on a highway near Nacogdoches.

According to CBS 19, the incident happened  at night on U.S. Highway 59, somewhere between Nacogdoches and Garrison, both of which are southeast of Tyler.

The investigation indicates that a northbound 2018 Dodge SUV veered into the southbound lane and crashed head-first into a 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck and that the latter vehicle ignited.

The force of the collision threw a passenger in the SUV from the vehicle, killing him at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet released this person’s identity to the public.

Medics transported the driver of the SUV to a hospital in Tyler, and they took the truck driver, identified as 46-year-old Titus Jackson, to a hospital in Nacogdoches.

A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
