Crash on I-20 EB at MM 539 in Van injures 1, kills service dog

VAN, TX – Medics airlifted one person to the hospital after a major collision along the interstate in east-central Van Zandt County this past Monday, reports KLTV 7.

The incident happened around 3:04 p.m. on the eastbound side of I-20 near mile marker 539, which is just northeast of the Rhine Lake.

The cause of the accident is still unclear, but police say that crews used the Jaws of Life to extricate one person from the wreckage. That person went to the hospital via air ambulance with injuries of unknown severity.

A service dog died in the collision.
