Fatalities reported in crash involving pickup trucks off US-287 in Decatur
DECATUR, TX – Two people died late Thursday morning in Decatur after a collision involving two pickup trucks at a motel in Decatur, reports DFW Scanner.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. just east of US-287 at the Best Western, which is south of West Thompson Street and northeast of Wise Health System – East Campus.
The investigation thus far indicates that a 65-year-old man had a medical episode while driving, at which point his pickup truck veered off of the road, hit a pole, and struck another pickup truck.
The 72-year-old driver of the second pickup truck died from injuries sustained in the accident. Authorities have not yet released his identity to the public.
Medics transported the other driver to the hospital, where he later died. It’s unclear if he died from injuries sustained in the crash or from complications related to the medical episode he experienced.
The investigation is ongoing.
