Fort Worth Officer struck, killed by drunk driver on I-35W near Sycamore School Rd

FORT WORTH, TX – An alleged drunk driver struck and killed a police officer Monday at the scene of a solo crash on the interstate in south-central Fort Worth, reports WFAA News 8.

The incident happened sometime shortly after 2 a.m. on the southbound side of I-35W near Sycamore School Road, which is in the Southbrook Park area, just east of Camelot Park.

Authorities say that Sgt. Billy Randolph was helping to clear the site of an accident involving an 18-wheeler that had caught fire. The southbound exit ramp to Sycamore School Road was clearly blocked when 25-year-old De Aujalae Evans drove northbound onto the ramp and hit Randolph, who died after transport to a local hospital.

Evans fled the scene on foot but was soon after apprehended and taken into custody. She faces charges of Intoxication Manslaughter Causing the Death of a Peace Officer or Firefighter.

A full investigation is underway.
