Passenger van overturns on Hwy 287 at FM 1655 in Alvord, killing 3
ALVORD, TX – A rush-hour crash involving a passenger van killed three people and injured eleven others Wednesday morning in north-central Wise County, reports WFAA News 8.
The incident happened just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 287 and FM 1655, which is northwest of Elm Creek Park and Alvord Veterans Memorial Park.
Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a northbound Chevy Express van carrying 14 people lost control. The van left the highway and overturned. Several occupants were thrown from the van during the crash.
The driver of the van and two other people died at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet disclosed their identities to the public.
Medics transported ten people to area hospitals — three with critical injuries, seven with non-critical injuries, and one with minor injuries.
Officials closed the highway in the area of FM 1655 while multiple ground ambulances and medical helicopters responded to the scene along with police officers.
A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
