Pickup truck strikes, kills man in wheelchair on E McKinney near Mack Park
DENTON, TX – A pickup truck struck and killed an elderly man in a motorized wheelchair along a major Denton roadway on Friday night, reports Fox 4 KDFW.
Police reported to East McKinney Street near Mack Park just before 8:30 p.m. This is on the east side of the city, just south of Alexander Elementary School.
Officials haven’t yet indicated if the pedestrian was crossing in a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident. They say the man, whom they’ve identified as 79-year-old Eladio Santiago, died after transport to a Denton hospital.
The driver involved in the collision did stop to render aid and to speak with authorities.
Motorists likely encountered delays along McKinney Street in the area of the accident while emergency teams attended to the patient and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. Our team of writers will share updates if we learn more about what happened.
