Minivan vs. dump truck crash at Pleasant Valley and Firewheel kills 1, injures 1

GARLAND, TX – A 99-year-old woman died, and another woman was hurt Saturday in two-vehicle crash involving a dump truck in northeast Dallas County, reports WFAA News 8.

The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. on the northeast side of Garland at Pleasant Valley Road and Firewheel Parkway. This is about 18 miles northeast of Dallas.

Police say that a city dump truck struck a minivan carrying two people when the driver of the latter vehicle failed to yield while turning left on Firewheel Parkway.

The driver of the dump truck was uninjured, but a passenger in the minivan, identified as Bessie Bell, died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Medics transported the driver of the minivan to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.

Drivers likely experienced significant delays at this intersection while crews worked to clear the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
