Solo crash on US-287 at TX-114 kills 17-year-old Rhome boy
RHOME, TX – A 17-year-old Decatur boy died Saturday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash along the highway in southeast Wise County, reports The Messenger.
The accident happened around 5 p.m. on the northbound side of US-287 near the TX-114 overpass in the city of Rhome. This is about 25 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
Police say that for unknown reasons, the high school senior lost control of his northbound 2017 Volkswagen GTI and left the highway. The sedan was likely speeding when it overturned and crashed into a concrete pillar.
The teen died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
Traffic along US-287 in the area of the accident was likely delayed late Saturday afternoon while emergency teams responded to the scene.
