Wrong-way cash on TX-59 in SW Montague Co. kills 1, injures 3
BOWIE, TX – A 23-year-old woman died last Friday evening after a head-on rollover collision along a state highway north of Bowie, reports Times Record News.
The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. on TX-59 just north of Bowie and southwest of Montague.
The investigation thus far indicates that a southbound 2011 Nissan Sentra sedan collided head-on with a northbound 2023 SUV Jeep. Police say the sedan had been attempting to pass other vehicles in a no-pass zone at the time of the collision. The driver of the SUV tried without success to avoid the crash.
The force of the collision caused the sedan to overturn, throwing the unrestrained passenger from the vehicle. The sedan also ignited after landing in a creek bed.
The passenger from the sedan died after transport to a local hospital. Authorities identified her as Journie Rakae Fletcher from Nacona.
The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, while her passenger went to the hospital with more serious injuries.
The driver of the Nissan sustained critical injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
